Discretionary Investment Managers

Discretionary Investment Managers

Some clients might need a more personalised, hands-on approach to managing their assets. You can help them access specialist knowledge by recommending a Discretionary Investment Manager.

A Discretionary Investment Manager can build a unique investment strategy which reflects the risk profile and investment objectives of your client. The Discretionary Investment Manager will actively manage your client's portfolio. They will be authorised to make investment decisions, reacting to market opportunities, without having to check with your client.

International Bond Discretionary Investment Managers

We offer access to a wide range of Discretionary Investment Managers who can provide a truly bespoke service. They can act across a variety of investment mandates, providing active management and access to investment opportunities that may not be available through fund investments.

The International Bond can be written on either a Life Assurance or Capital Redemption basis. All information on this page is relevant to both options.

Enhanced Discretionary
Some Discretionary Investment Managers (DIMS) have signed an Enhanced Discretionary (ED) Mandate with Standard Life International dac. ED opens up the investment options available to the DIM. As well as standard Unit Trusts and OEICs, DIMs can invest in stocks and shares on regulated exchanges, exchange traded commodities, and money market instruments from approved credit institutions. These assets are also often cheaper than funds, an increasingly important priority in a MiFID II environment. ED also spreads the diversity of the portfolio and allows DIMs to invest fully in line with their management style and investment expertise.

For ED to work successfully, the customer or adviser may not influence the selection of investments. If they do the bond may become highly personalised and a punitive tax charge due. The sales aid can be found here and adviser declaration here.

We’ll apply a simple stepped product charge ranging from 0.20% to 0.55% a year, depending upon the value of the bond, to investments made using a Discretionary Investment Manager.
