The CGT changes proposed in the pre-budget statement and clarified in the 2008 Budget stimulated a lot of debate on the relative merits and suitability of the differing investment tax wrappers. Now the dust has settled and people have had time to analyse the impact there is a view shared by Standard Life that for many investors perhaps not much has changed. If a particular tax wrapper or financial product was the right choice before the Budget (or pre-budget report) it is likely to be the right choice now.
To assist advisers in the task of assessing any impact and identifying the most suitable vehicle for their clients Standard Life has been developing a range of support material and tools all easily accessible on adviserzone.
The latest addition to this is an online calculator, which allows the adviser to analyse the impact of tax and product charges on the yields of the different financial products.
Recognising the need for advisers to analyse specific scenarios, the tool has been designed to allow you to update many of the assumptions and variables used by the calculator.
While the tool alone will not provide a definitive answer, as there are many factors to consider, we believe it will provide valuable support to those providing advice in this complex area.
For more information about the calculator and support material available please speak to your usual Standard life contact.
